A secret elopement in rural West Virginia

Elopements are inherently intimate and romantic, but Abbi and Carson took it to the next level with their secret elopement in the serene town of Green Bank, West Virginia. Nestled in the heart of Pocahontas County, Green Bank offered them the perfect backdrop for their special day. With no wifi, no cell service, and a profound sense of seclusion, it felt like stepping into another world—a private elopement haven.

Abbi and Carson chose their family's cabin in Green Bank for its rustic charm and complete seclusion. Just a 30-minute drive from Snowshoe, this location offered everything they desired for their West Virginia elopement. The cabin, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, provided a tranquil and private setting where they could focus solely on each other (and their adorable pups- Archie and Wesson!)

Their elopement ceremony took place among the pines just up the road from the cabin. The forest provided a natural venue, with sunlight filtering through the branches and the only sounds were the wind and vows being exchanged. When it was time to exchange rings, brief panic set in when Carson realized they left the rings in the truck that was parked down the hill. They continued on, sealed it with a kiss, and we wrapped their I-do’s with a quick ring exchange down by the truck.

After the ceremony, Abbi and Carson ran hand in hand in the field across the road. They laughed, kissed, and just soaked in all the “just married” feelings. It was a quintessential West Virginia elopement experience.

To end their magical evening, we headed back down the road to their cabin, where their reception picnic was waiting on them. Complete with a charcuterie board, custom cake, tequila mojitos, and a fire to keep warm on this breezy April evening, this celebration was the perfect way to make it feel like a “real” wedding day (a common fear for folks who want to elope!)

They danced to their favorite Tyler Childers song and when their bellies were full, they ran around stealing kisses in the sunset.
